Experience Free Comic Book Day

It’s that time of year again. The first Saturday of May is always the designated Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) of the year. Next Saturday (5/4) is this year’s Free Comic Book Day.

The first step in participating in FCBD is verifying that your local comic store is taking part in the event. Now rules for which comics and how many you get free will vary from store to store, but every participating store will give you at least one free comic from the designated titles. I would encourage you to buy some *regular* comics while you’re there to support your local store too.

There are 12 titles that are designated as part of the “Gold Comics” group. The Avengers title from Marvel stands out to me as I’m prone to superhero comics first and foremost. There’s also a Stranger Things comic from Dark Horse, expansion content of Netflix’s most successful and popular show. There’s also a “Deadly Class” book which ties in with the new TV adaptation of it on SYFY. There are 39 titles as part of the “Silver Comics” group. There is a very wide variety of stories and characters in this group to choose from. This looks to be made more of kid-friendly titles.

Make sure you get to your local comic store this Saturday. Get there early if there are certain comics you know you want because they may run out. That happened to me last year, but the comics I settled for were still really good reads.
