Marvel was slacking a little this week by only shipping out 18 new titles. They usually have 20+ new weekly. In honor of “Endgame” releasing in theaters I feel compelled to highlight a comic about one of the Avengers. “Captain America #10″ is out in stores this week. Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing and Adam Kubert is the artist. I really like the cover by Alex Ross. ” A prison riot is the best possible cover to break Captain America out of confinement – but what if the Star-Spangled Avenger doesn’t want to go?”

DC Comics released 11 new titles this week. Closer to Marvel than in most weeks. I’m going to highlight “The Flash #70.” This is the start of “The Flash Year One” and is the perfect spot to jump in if you haven’t been reading any Flash lately. It’s the origin of Barry Allen’s Flash. Written by Joshua Williamson and drawn by Howard Porter.

Before Free Comic Book Day this Saturday, Marvel is shipping out 25 new titles this week. “Major X #3″ is now at your local comic store and should not be missed. Liefeld is writing with Whilce Portacio illustrating. ” With the X-Istence threatened, Major X has no choice but to leap through time to save it. With a little help from Cable and Wolverine, can even the Major overcome the terrible threat of an infamous killer with the initials DP?” I really like the cover.

DC Comics is shipping out a average 10 titles this week. I would say “DC’s Year of the Villain #1” is a definite pick up, as it’s very cheap. I would also highlight “DCeased #1” from Injustice write Tom Taylor. Taylor has been hyping this new series up a lot on social media for awhile now. “A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction. The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first…but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends?”

DC Announces “Batman/Superman” Series

DC Comics has revealed that Josh Williamson will be writing a new series with David Marquez illustrating. This will be Marquez’s DC debut after coming over from Marvel. This new Batman and Superman team up series will launch this August. Most importantly, the Batman Who Laughs will be the centered antagonist in the series. The series sounds like it will be a mix of mystery, action, and horror. Check out some concept art below.

Marvel is shipping out 32 new comics this week. That’s a lot of new comics. Lots of variety to choose from this week. I’m gonna highlight “Thanos #1.” It’s written by Tini Howard and illustrated by Ariel Olivetti. Olivetti also did the cover. “Thanos is dead! Executed by the deadliest assassin in the galaxy…his daughter, Gamora. But before their relationship came to a bloody end, how did it begin? Find out in this all new miniseries by Tini Howard (MARVEL KNIGHTS 20TH and AGE OF CONAN: BELIT) and Ariel Olivetti (DEATH OF THE INHUMANS)!”

DC Comics only shipped out 11 new titles this week. That’s only about a third of the new titles Marvel has this week… I’m going to highlight “Heroes In Crisis #8,” the penultimate issue of this great event series. “You’ve seen all the clues. You’ve heard the testimony and eavesdropped on the secret confessions of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes. Now, with the killer revealed, it’s time to find out why. What could have driven a hero to the brink, to turn a savior into a murderer? Rifts will form between old allies, and the trinity of Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman will have their leadership challenged and will question their own judgement. Sanctuary has become something they never imagined…and it’s still potentially carrying on without them!”

Marvel is shipping out 28 new books this week. That’s almost 30 new comics by Marvel in a week. DC wishes. I’m gonna highlight “Daredevil #4” for a few reasons. At first I wasn’t sure how much I was into this series but these past two issues have been spectacular. I still miss the Netflix show and wish we had gotten another season. Disney just had to ruin everything with their greed. Also, the Punisher is on the cover so if you’re a Punisher fan you have to check this issue out.

DC only shipped out 10 new comics this week. That’s 2 less than Image shipped… I guess I’ll highlight “Nightwing #59” because I don’t think I’ve ever highlighted Nightwing on the blog before, but there’s not too much to pick from on the DC side this week.

Marvel has 26 (!) new books out this week. They consistently ship over 20 new titles each week. Good for them. I’m going to highlight the new “Captain Marvel #4” as the recent movie about her character has been a huge success. If you saw the movie and were a fan, you need to check out the comics for more. “Nuclear Man reveals his secret weapon: The X-Man ROGUE! It’s been years since Rogue stole Carol’s powers and memories in a fight that changed Carol forever. Though Carol and Rogue have become somewhat uneasy allies in the years since, a wound like that never fully heals. And now, isolated from her allies and facing her worst nightmare, how far will Carol go to stop history from repeating itself?”

On the other hand, DC Comics has actually shipped in the double digits this week. There are 13 new DC titles at your local comic store this week. I’ll go ahead and recommend the obvious, “The Batman Who Laughs #4.” This series and character are thriving for DC right now. If you aren’t reading this series yet, you need to be. There will be much more Batman Who Laughs content released throughout the year. This miniseries is only the beginning.

Marvel has 22 new titles out this week. “Major X #1” is the first issue of a new series by the creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld. Liefeld wrote and illustrated this first issue. This series is the start of a brand new character, Major X. Will he become as iconic as Deadpool? Pick up the first issue in your local comic store to find out.

DC Comics only had 7 new titles out this week. They publish so much less than Marvel does each week. Not even half the amount of titles… I’m going to highlight “Female Furies #3” because I’m loving the series so far and I think Scott Free is about to become a bigger part of the story soon. “This issue, we’re trapped in the dreams of Beautiful Dreamer! The Forever People are Apokolips’ Most Wanted, and bringing one of them to the planet is treason all unto itself, so the fact that Granny’s plan to brainwash her Female Furies has backfired, Beautiful Dreamer is on the loose and the rogue Fury Aurelie is to blame can’t be good for anyone. Can Granny track down these fugitives before Darkseid discovers that his warrior women are the source of his army’s recent troubles in the war against New Genesis?”

Check Out New Marvel Event Series “War of the Realms”

The newest Marvel event series “War of the Realms” launches on April 3rd. It’s the first of 6 issues in the new series. “War of the Realms #1” is written by Jason Aaron and drawn by Russell Dauterman. “THE WORLD AT WAR! Asgard. Alfheim. Heven. Jotunheim. Muspelheim. Niffleheim. Nidavellir. Svartalfheim. Vanaheim. All of the Ten Realms have fallen to Malekith and his army except one: Midgard. Home to Thor’s beloved humans. Home to heroes and gods alike. Now, at last, it burns. And Thor won’t even be there to see it. This is a special week. I’m not going to be talking about any Marvel this week because it’s a milestone week for DC.

This week in DC Comics canon Batman turns 80 years old! If you’re local comic store isn’t celebrating they aren’t doing it right. At the same time, “Detective Comics #1000” is out. That’s right, DC has now had two series reach 1000 issues. That’s monumental. For this special issue, multiple authors and artists came together to write many short Batman stories. It all adds up to a 96 page special issue. I got one for myself and plan to give some thoughts on some of the individual stories on the blog later.
